A gentleman's apartment
This sophisticated apartment in Lisbon, Portugal, styled by Portuguese Interior design office SAARANHA&VASCONCELOS reflects the taste and criteria of its owner, a single businessman. The colours used in the living room combine warm and cool tones; one sees soft cream and taupe mixed with antique gold creating an environment at once formal and inviting. The orange velvet armchair adds interest and together with the zebra hide stools become a talking point and bring the scheme together. Interestingly, they do not draw attention away from the wall art that remains on the contemporary side and which has been selected by the owner.
TheTaza lamp base in satin black finish from Copper & Silk would work well in a similar scheme.

The idea was to make this a fluid, comfortable and very livable ambiance. As an example of this, the dining table has folding flaps and by remove two chairs, it also creates a workspace and substituting therefore the more social side of the house with a grown up work space.
Saatchiart.com has a large selection of original art as well as prints, for something unique. You can find similar pendant lights on madeindesign.com. Ingo Maurer's Birdie Nest ceiling light would complement the scheme and work well with the owner's collection of glass votives. While the homeowner already had a good collection of art and decorative items, SAARANHA&VASCONCELOS were also asked to source a lot the interiors that make this apartment truly unique.
The beautiful black & white wall mural is made up from a photo of the homeowner's own collectable car and is another talking point in the apartment. The floor lamp above is by French company Jielde. Originally designed in France in the 1950s as a workshop light, Jielde's wide range of formats and colours soon established them as a favourite with domestic users. Robustly constructed in cast metal, adjustable in all directions, with a distinct, individual personality, their appeal remains undimmed. You can find them at Holloways of Ludlow in a variety of colours and finishes. This is the 6-arm floor lamp, with a cost of £855 for brushed stainless steel.
