Turkey’s Best Beaches
There’s nothing quite like a beach holiday. If you’re planning a getaway where you can relax on golden sands, consider Turkey.
This is a captivating destination, whether you’re looking for a luxury getaway or something more budget friendly. You’ll find that Turkey’s beaches offer something for everyone, and many of them are freely accessible.
When researching Turkey holidays, it’s worth taking the time to find out what beaches are on offer here. Here’s your at-a-glance guide to help you narrow your search.
Which are the best beaches to visit in Turkey?
Olu Deniz Beach
Olu Deniz Beach is undeniably one of Turkey’s most iconic coastal spots. Not only is it a dreamy place for a swim, but it’s the epitome of an Insta-worthy beach, with its vibrant hues and picture-perfect surroundings.
The sweeping golden sands of the beach lead to the famous Blue Lagoon, a national nature reserve known for its still, bright blue waters. It’s the ideal place for swimming, snorkelling, and taking a break from the world.
The area around the lagoon is a protected zone, so it’s less developed than other parts of Turkey’s coast. You can look up from here and enjoy breathtaking views as paragliders soar above the lagoon from nearby Babadag Mountain.
And when the sun sets, you can head to the beachside bars. Buzz Beach Bar hosts events throughout the year.
Butterfly Valley Beach
If you’re looking for something truly off the beaten track, Butterfly Valley Beach offers a unique experience. Only accessible by boat from Olu Deniz, this secluded beach is home to hundreds of species of butterflies, making it an enchanting destination.
Cleopatra Beach
Cleopatra Beach, located in Alanya, offers more than just stunning scenery; it’s steeped in legend.
The story goes that the Egyptian queen Cleopatra herself once swam here, and you can easily see why. Its waters are remarkably clear, and the sand has a distinctive, fine texture, said to have been shipped all the way from Egypt as a romantic gesture.
Aside from its historical allure, Cleopatra Beach offers nearly two miles of golden sand, perfect for sunbathing or beach games. The water, a shade of turquoise that seems straight out of a travel brochure, is inviting for swimmers of all abilities. If you're after a beach that combines natural beauty with historical intrigue, this one is a must.
Iztuzu Beach
Often referred to as ‘Turtle Beach’, this stretch of sand is a protected nesting ground for loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta). Spanning over two and a half miles, it’s a key turtle breeding spot in the Mediterranean, and visitors can often catch a glimpse of these creatures during their stay.
As well as being a wildlife hotspot, Iztuzu Beach is a fantastic destination for families. The shallow waters are ideal for younger children, while the wide expanse of sand offers plenty of space to sprawl out and enjoy a picnic or sunbathe.
Lara Beach
Lara Beach, near Antalya, has long been a favourite for sun-seekers and holidaymakers.
It’s been awarded Blue Flag status for its cleanliness and excellent facilities and is popular with holidaymakers from around the world. Parasols, sun loungers, and beach bars dot the shore, offering everything you need for a comfortable day by the sea.
Patara Beach
Located near the ancient city of Patara, this is Turkey’s longest beach, with 11 miles of uninterrupted sands. It’s a quiet spot, making it an ideal choice for couples or anyone seeking a peaceful escape. Take a romantic stroll along the shoreline, or simply soak in the vast expanse of sky and sea.
Kaputas Beach
Kaputas Beach is a hidden treasure between Kas and Kalkan. This small cove, surrounded by towering cliffs, is as photogenic as they come. The vibrant, turquoise waters contrast against the soft golden sands, creating a picture-perfect setting for selfies.
Be prepared for a bit of a descent, as you’ll need to navigate some steps to reach the beach, but if you can reach the beach below, you can relax by the calm, clear waters.
